Yes to Save Homes was a victorious political campaign conducted by the Missouri Association of Realtors to promote Amendment 3 in the 2010 November election. The amendment modified the Missouri Constitution to prevent transfer taxes from being applied to the sale of residential real estate.

The Missouri Association of Realtors approached Scott Wendling of PenguinSpark and Jessica Hickok of Dizmang Properties to coordinate and manage a social media marketing campaign, with only six weeks remaining until the vote. A Facebook page and Twitter account existed but had not been utilized much, if at all.

Jessica coordinated the timing and delivery of messages on social networks. Scott composed an email campaign delivered to socially active Realtors and managed social media engagement. Link tracking services, analytics, and Facebook insights were used to quickly determine the audience and primary interest. This information was used to create a highly active and involved fan base.

The amendment passed by almost 84%, one of the largest Amendment victory margins in Missouri history. If you have a campaign, promotion, or event contact PenguinSpark about a social media marketing campaign.

@penguinspark is excited to announce the roll out of the Academy of Early Childhood learning online makeover.

The Academy was looking for a way to interact with people interested in anything related to childcare & provide useful information to parents of the Academy.

The Comprehensive Plan

@penguinspark created a comprehensive integrated plan. The plan focuses on an informative website that integrates with Facebook and Twitter. Everyone is different and prefers to interact in different ways. This plan allows parents to stay up to date wherever they prefer to be on the Internet. At the same time it demonstrates the quality of the Academy to potential parents rather than simply tell them how good they are through a website. People believe what you do, not what you tell them.

Website

AcademyCastle.com

Their current website was a static website built solely for marketing. It did not provide any useful information for current parents. We adjusted the focus of the website to appeal to current parents rather than promoting the business to potential parents. The website now provides the parents with:

Weekly menu’s

Upcoming field trips

Monthly classroom newsletters

Monthly at home parenting tips

Facebook

Academy Facebook Page

A Facebook page was created so parents could stay in contact in an environment a lot of them already spend time in. They can be easily updated on schedule changes and important information without leaving Facebook. We tied the Facebook account into the website so people can reccomend articles and even become a fan of the Academy from the website.

Twitter

@AcademyCastle

We created a Twitter account to primarily reach out to parents that do not have children in the preschool. They will provide informative tips, funny things that happen in the school, and answer general parenting and childcare questions. Their tweets will also display on the website so even if parents don’t have a Twitter account they can still easily see the tweets.

A 45 day competition by Google in February 2010. The winner got gigabit internet into every home. Individuals could vote for towns by filling out a short form. @penguinspark organized a flashmob/publicity stunt for CoMO Fiber to get the word out to Columbia to vote. While the event its self was a moderate success, the goal of raising awareness was an overwhelming success.

Everything for this event was donated or volunteered by people that want to improve Columbia, MO internet. Many local news organizations picked up the story. 16,000 signs with voting instructions were passed out at the sold out Mizzou vs Kansas basketball game. The Columbia Public School board responded by submitting their own nomination as well as encouraging all schools, teachers and parents.

How it went down

Monday: The concept for #comoflashmob is discussed by @CommercialScott and@CoMOFiber members.

Tuesday: An email goes out with the plan and instantly spreads throughout Columbia like wildfire. People promote on Twitter and Facebook to make sure everyone knows what’s going on.

Wednesday: Shakespeare’s Pizza offers to donate pizza to the sign party scheduled for the night before the flashmob. First grader students at Fairview Elementary make signs for our flashmob.

Thursday: Boone County National Bank approaches us to donate 16,000 signs.

Friday: The press is going nuts! KFRU’s David Lile talks about it on his morning show, Simon Rose & Renee Hulshof discuss it on the their show, and 93.9 The Eagle discusses the event on their morning show. KOMU, KRCG and the Columbia Missourian all promo the event in their evening news and publications. That night we held the sign making party that was a blast!

PenguinSpark had the privilege work with Dealmakers in the planning and promotion of the event. The tweetup was a great success. I got to meet many tweeters from the commercial real estate industry including. Representatives from the Realtors Commercial Allinace (@RCAtweet), Retail Traffic (@RetailTraffic), the Houston Association of Realtors (@infosam) and many others were in attendance. The tweetup was a success and I look forward to next years as I know it will grow even larger.

Gary Kespohl needed an internet marketing campaign designed and implemented quickly. He was running for Columbia, MO city council and the vote was only 2 months away.

We created a website, social marketing plan, and even taught Gary how to use Twitter. Gary’s opponent Karl Skala relied on a static website and office hours at a coffee shop.

Karl Skala, who seeks to retain his Third Ward seat, said simply, “I don’t tweet.”
Skala said he sees the value in social networking but said his time is limited and texting isn’t a priority. -Columbia Daily Tribune
